Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) Byron Wilson brings 25 years of experience in regulatory compliance, risk management, and financial ethics – along with a passion for the legal side of financial advising and an entrepreneurial spirit – to The Millstone Evans Group team.
As CCO, Byron is responsible for developing and overseeing the firm’s compliance program, ensuring that all policies and procedures align with evolving regulatory frameworks. This includes conducting internal audits, monitoring transactions, and ensuring that the firm adheres to all industry regulations and best practices.
In today’s rapidly changing financial landscape, the role of a CCO is more crucial than ever. Regulatory scrutiny has increased, with heightened expectations for transparency, cybersecurity measures, and ethical business conduct. By proactively identifying potential risks, Byron helps prevent and mitigate them to protect the interests of clients as well as avoid anything that could adversely impact the firm.
Beyond regulatory oversight, he works closely with senior management to integrate compliance into the firm’s strategic initiatives. By aligning compliance with business goals, he enables sustainable growth while minimizing legal and financial risks. His ability to balance regulatory obligations with practical business considerations makes him an essential advisor to both leadership and client-facing teams.
Prior to joining The Millstone Evans Group team, Byron built a successful history of leading and managing high performing teams as Director of Wealth Management Compliance with Vanguard, Senior Compliance Specialist with Robinhood, Vice President and Deputy CCO of Jackson National, and Director of Compliance for Salient Partners, L.P.
When it comes to the small but growing Millstone Evans Group team. Byron says he likes the tight-knit atmosphere and camaraderie, the lack of institutional bureaucracy, and the quick and informed decision making you find with a smaller firm. He also appreciates the team’s focus on personalized service, which is a Millstone Evans Group hallmark.
“One thing I’ve learned across all my business experience is that people care about the services you provide and the way you treat them,” he says. “Adding that personal touch to every client relationship makes the difference between a good company and a great one.”
Byron holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Stephen F. Austin State University. He also holds the FINRA Series 24, Series 7 and Series 66 licenses.
A Texas native, Byron and his family moved from Houston to the Denver area in 2015, and they all fell in love with it. Some of his favorite aspects include the weather, mountains, outdoor activities, and, more than anything, the people in Denver, who he says are genuinely nice, down to earth and were so helpful to him and his family – which includes his wife, three teenage sons and two big dogs - as they acclimated to their new home.
