Fine Art: Finance With Forte

Sometimes the work we do outside the office is as impactful as the work we do in the office.

Many of you know we work with a program called Funding the Future, which promotes financial literacy education for young people. This May in Pontiac, Michigan, Funding the Future* artists GOODING and The Reminders partnered with guest Artistic Director Dan Trahey to create an immersive, week-long creative learning experience for the youth musicians in the Accent Pontiac Social Change Through Music program. Students in the program range from ages 7 to 11.

Pontiac is a struggling community, working hard to revive their local economy. Throughout the week, the students were immersed in thinking about the many aspects of money in their lives and coached about basic financial literacy principles. Their group assignment was to compose a vocal and orchestral work inspired by the theme of financial literacy, and to perform the work that Friday during Rock ‘n’ Art$ at Pontiac’s Flagstar Strand Theatre.

We are happy to share with you a suite of videos that shows how impactful the week was for these students – and everyone with Funding the Future – on many levels. Please enjoy your behind-the-scenes look at this inspiring, week-long collaboration, as well as the full performance.

* Funding the Future is a nonprofit organization that teaches teens vital financial principles by organizing live musical performances at schools across the nation and creating a dialogue around financial literacy between students and musicians. Through Funding the Future’s Financial Literacy Tour, more than 150,000 students engaged in 500 unique concerts across 34 states. They leave buzzing about the inspiring music and ready to harness money as a tool to succeed, achieve dreams and change lives.
